Overview

First 5 California provides resources and information to support parents, caregivers, and families across the state. To better serve its audiences, the organization needed a website experience that made important content easier to find, easier to manage, and more accessible for all users.

The Challenge

The website already contained a broad range of valuable content, but much of it was difficult for users to discover. The experience needed a clearer structure, better navigation, and a stronger content organization model. At the same time, the internal team needed a more flexible way to manage content across the site.

Our Approach

Sunnybyte partnered with First 5 California and their marketing agency to uncover and reorganize existing content, then redesign the user experience around clarity, accessibility, and searchability. We developed a revised UX and visual design aligned with WCAG 2.0 AA standards, created a category and tag structure to support stronger search functionality, and built a backend content model that allowed every page to be managed within the CMS.
The final platform combined Contentful for content management, Gatsby for the front-end website, and Netlify for hosting, creating a modern web architecture that improved both performance and maintainability.
